* AUTOMOBILE: The government is likely to come out with a draft policy for the automobile industry within two months, Heavy Industries Minister Anant Geete said.

* BANKING: A working group on financial technology and digital banking, set up by the Reserve Bank of India in July 2016, has mooted a standalone data protection and privacy law in India. The Reserve Bank of India cautioned against fake websites with names or uniform resource locators--URLs as they are generally referred to--similar to the central bank's. About nine banks have put 630 bln rupees of loans on sale. BANK OF INDIA, BANK OF BARODA, INDIAN OVERSEAS BANK, UCO BANK and ANDHRA BANK are some of the banks with big quantum of loans on sale.

* INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: The Competition Commission of India has imposed a fine of 1.36 bln rupees on Google Inc and Google India Pvt Ltd for "creating an uneven playing field by favouring Google's own services and partners", a notification from the anti-trust body said.

* STEEL: TATA STEEL and JSW STEEL submitted offers for bankrupt Bhushan Power and Steel on Thursday, the final date for submission of offers for the company.

* SUGAR: The government has notified minimum stockholding limits on mills to check oversupply in wholesale markets, and a fall in prices of the sweetener.

* TELECOMMUNICATION: The telecom regulator has sought views on whether airwaves for public mobile radio trunking service--used in disaster relief, emergency response --should be allocated by the government or auctioned. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India will start testing the service quality of voice and data offerings, including call drops, of all mobile phone operators in Delhi from mid-February.

* TRADE: Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu has said Indian exports have stagnated for some time, and the sector  needs serious policy changes.
