Sensex surges 285 points; Nifty reclaims 10,200

Indian benchmarks continued to gain strength during the noon trading session as traders continued to take encouragement with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s statement that India is set to become an ‘extremely attractive’ country to do business, on the back of greater digitisation and formalisation of financial activities and businesses. Investors also remained optimistic with CEA Arvind Subramanian’s statement that the rate cuts by the Council will not have any major impact on government's revenue and no major effect on India's fiscal deficit.
At 13:15 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 285.51 points or by 0.87 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 10196.1 up by 78.05 points or by 0.77 per cent. In the positive trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 33079.1 and intraday low of 32829.82 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10211.65 and intraday low of 10139.2.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 978.60,+2.80%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 899.90,+1.98%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2754.50,+1.79%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 414.55,+1.46%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 179.65,+1.30%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 398.10,-2.25%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 268.25,-1.52%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 3199.55,-0.40%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 592.60,-0.17%), among others.
Among the sectors, IT index was at 10844.17 up by 192.11 points or by 1.8%. Firstsource Solutions Ltd. (Rs. 39.10,+7.71%), Sonata Software Ltd. (Rs. 202.00,+5.02%), TVS Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 436.80,+4.75%), D-Link (India) Ltd. (Rs. 116.25,+4.21%), Cigniti Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 247.00,+4.04%),.
On the flip side, BSE_HCS index was at 13592.91 down by 44.64 points or by 0.33%. Fortis Healthcare Ltd. (Rs. 132.20,-5.87%), Biocon Ltd. (Rs. 382.00,-2.45%), Laurus Labs Ltd. (Rs. 526.90,-1.67%), Panacea Biotec Ltd. (Rs. 251.35,-1.39%), Neuland Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 1145.90,-1.21%),.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2779 , shares advanced were 1628 while 994 shares declined and 157 were unchanged.
