Markets remain firm; RIL, Tata Motors top gainers

The key domestic benchmark indices were trading in the green in the late morning trading session tracking mixed trend across global peers backed by beaten down stocks.

The markets saw some stock specific movement in absence of any major development on the domestic or global front.

On the corporate front, stocks of Fortis Healthcare remained in focus after the company said it would buy back the real estate assets from Religare Healthcare Trust (RHT) for Rs 4,650 crore. Shares of New India Assurance Company added 3 percent in morning on the back of strong numbers for the quarter ended September 2017 (Q2FY18). Also, share price of Jubilant Foodworks, gained nearly 2 percent intraday to hit a fresh 52-week high of Rs 1,750 as analysts remained positive on the stock.

At 11:20 a.m, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 32907.26 up by 146.82 points or by 0.45 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 10155.05 up by 37 points or by 0.37 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 32956.05 and an intraday low of 32829.82 while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 10169.35 and an intraday low of 10139.2.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 898.30,+1.80 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 240.20,+1.22 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 412.95,+1.06 per cent), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1219.20,+0.94 per cent), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1021.30,+0.90 per cent), among others.

Meanwhile, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 398.50,-2.15 per cent), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 267.10,-1.95 per cent), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 482.75,-0.94 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 502.55,-0.50 per cent), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 295.30,-0.30 per cent), were among the top losers on BSE.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total 2474 shares traded, 1451 shares advanced, 914 shares declined while 109 were unchanged.

On the global front, Asian stocks were trading mixed after Wall Street stumbled despite upbeat US economic news, while the Wall Street closed lower in the previous trading session as energy sector shares dropped for a fourth straight session, tracking crude prices.
